We’re gonna show you how to love
We’re gonna show you how to care
We’re gonna show you how to die
How to die! How to die! And not be scared
We are the ones who put the Bible in the drawer of your hotel
We are the ones who put the pearls inside the ugly oyster shell
Just like a prize inside a cereal box
Your soul resides in a material box
But if you sift around inside
Sure enough you'll find...
Have you ever felt so low?
Like there’s nothing you can do
When all your lovers and your friends
start growing up and get transformed
Until they’re not the ones you knew
Deep down inside you know that everybody’s changing, even you
Except the soul which is invisible, eternal, pure, and true!

I Saw Your Heart
02:06
|

I saw your heart angry
I saw your heart ball up its fists
I saw your heart balk at the weight of me
I saw your compassion
I saw your beauty
I saw your heart hesitate at the diving board
I saw ripples after your heart jumped in the swimming pool
I saw your heart splashing in a joyful state
I saw your heart back away
I saw your heart stupid
I saw your heart cunning
I saw your heart explode
I scraped the pieces from under my fingernails
The smell was musty, old leather, darkened room

Memory Vortex

Memory vortex in my mind
Always brings me down somehow
Caught up in thoughts of who I was
Neglecting myself now
And each sunset brings stories till dawn
They go on and on
It’s hard to make room for change
And it’s a little strange
To try to leave those versions of ourselves from years ago
They feel just like old friends
There is a place where we will go
There is a face that we will know
There will be days so much sweeter than those
There is a love
More glorious than we know

Rite Side of Your Tears
03:09
|
|||
When we were together
(It wasn’t for very long)
But for a time we were on eachothers’ side
Sweetly stupid and rolling along
The discomfort that I put you through
I don’t think you lent it to much water
I know you reserve those lakes
Only for your heart’s drink and fodder
I saw your eyes well at the movies
But hardly would a tear fall
I saw them glisten at the grocery
And at the man collecting the toll
But when I pray at the end of the day
It’s not to keep you from discomfort or fear
But that each answer that crosses your way
Remains on the right side of your tears
May the song and the cause and the unabashed
Stay on the right side of your tears
May the rank and the file and the determined child
Stay on the right side of your tears
May the brave and the kind and the suckers of life
Stay on the right side of your tears
The inane and the plain and the enthusiastic
Stay on the right side of your tears
May the song and the cause and the unabashed
Stay on the right side of your tears
May the rank and the file and the city rabbits
Stay on the right side of your tears
And if you find my photo in a box someday
I hope I’m on the right side of your tears
Keep me on the right side of your tears
